Louis Riecke

:: 11/6/2017: Anthony DiVincenti, Slidell La, U.S.A.
I am 78 and still competing in Olympic weightlifting in Louisiana . I was a member of the N.O.A.C weightlifting team in the 50's and Louie was our coach. We won many lifting meets under his guidance and coaching and I credit him for my early knowledge of lifting and enthusiasm for it that I still enjoy today. Last I saw of him was last year at a local Senior Olympics meet that I was competing in. His health at that time was not good and I was sorry to hear that he had recently succumbed He was a great person, outstanding lifter and my coach .

Mr. Reicke participated on a team with my brother David Berger through the New Orleans Athletic Club in the 60's David was killed at the Munich Olympics. I would like to inform Mr. Riecke about a memorial dedication for David in NO.

An update on Lou, we go to the track every morning @ 6:15 a.m. to walk a few miles-- he says we only have to go on days that end in a 'Y' ! He's still fantastic

I was at the 64 Olympic wl trials as in the pic also at the 63 nats when he and Kono were very close. I remember seeing a shot of Lou's back in S&H which showed terrific development. It was good to get your personal perspective on the man.

Lou Riecke was not only a gifted Olympic lifter, he is an even better human being. After he retired from competition he was the strength coach for 10 years with the Pittsburgh Stealers during their 1970's run when they won four Superbowl championships. I had the pleasure of weight training with Lou for years when he was in his mid-70's and he was quite prodigious. He also competed in senior olympic running events, i.e., the 100 and 200 yard dash, and often won the contests. He is very competitive; however, he is one of the most humble and erudite individuals I have ever had the pleasure to call my friend.
