Lajos Szucs
:: 8/28/2011: ALFONSO A. RODRIGUEZ, PALM BAY FLORIDA, USA IT WAS FUNNY TO SEE SZUCS AND HOLCZREITER WALKING TOGETHER AROUND THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE IN 1972, THEY LOOKS LIKE MINIATURES BUT SZUCS STILL LOOKED VERY STRONG; HOLCSREITER WAS TALLER BUT MUCH THINNER AND ALMOST CHOKED ON A GERMAN SAUSAGE HE BOUGH FROM A VENDING CAR NEAR THE VILLAGE . ITS A PITY THAT BOTH ALREADY PASSED AWAY. SZUCS NEEDED 135KG (297) TO WIN THE FLYWEIGHTS IN MUNICH '72 AND MADE A VERY STRONG CLEAN BUT FAILED THE JERK AS HE PUSH IT FOWARD AND HAD TO PERSUE THE BAR BUT COULD NOT CONTROL IT. IT WAS A VALIANT ATTEMPT AT A WORLD RECORD AND IT WAS 16.5 POUNDS OVER HIS BEST THAT NIGHT OF 127.5 KG (281LBS). THE AUDIENCE DID APPRECIATE IT WITH GOOD AND LOUD CHEERS. GOOD MEMORIES FOR ALL PRESENT THAT NIGHT. SMALZCERK WON THAT NIGHT BY VIRTUE OF BEING A MORE BALANCE LIFTER ON ALL THREE LIFTS. BOTH HUNGARIAN WERE PRESS SPECIALISTS AND HOLCZREITER HAD THE RECORD WITH 120 KG AND COULD ONLY MAKE 125 IN THE C&J ON A GOOD DAY. iT REMAINDED ME OF SOME SUPER HEAVYWEIGHTS THAT COULD PRESS AND CLEAN & JERK ALMOST THE SAME WEIGHT.
