I was at the '76 Olympics and saw him in action. I'm not kidding: he power cleaned all of his attempts, rode them down and bounced up with no problem at all. He did 190 on his last C&J, by the way. Just brutally strong; the bar had no chance at all.

Mitkov was one of those lifters who did not possess any great muscularity and even had a 'wild' technique...yanking the barbell from the platform. He was; however, tremendously strong and made very impressive lifts when called upon. One of the Bulgarian 'super lifters' of the mid 1970s.
