Waldemar Malak

I have met Waldemar during the Junior European Championships in Malta 1990. Being an amateur weightlifter, I helped to transport the lifters from their hotel to the training hall during the Championships. One day I took the Polish team by my own car, and Waldemar asked me if he could drive it. Well, I've let him and we were soon two great buddies. He was a very colourful person, full of zest for life. Made a couple of training sessions with him. He left me his leotard as a token for our friendship, which I still treasure to this day. I remember the shock I took when I read the newspaper, months after the Barcellona Olympics, about his tragic death. A very talented lifter.
