David Morgan
:: 7/14/2020: amanda trender, oxford , england Dear Mr. St.John,I have also followed weightlifting closely for decades, which is why it is patently obvious to me that winning a medal at the 1984 Olympics, when the dominant nations of the sport were not in attendance, is a relatively hollow achievement. I look upon it as similar to winning a heavyweight boxing world title in the 1970's, if Ali,Frazier,Foreman and Norton had all been boycotting the sport.Or like winning the U.S.Open or Wimbledon in tennis in the last ten years or so, if Federer,Nadal, and Djokovic had all been on a boycott. It is all very well to say you won,but to do so without pointing out that caveat seems disingenuous and a little arrogant.I fully recognise that David Morgan is probably the best weightlifter Britain have had in decades, but a little humility wouldn't go amiss. It is similar to winning a heavyweight boxing wolf title in the 1970's if Ali,Frazier, Foreman and Norton had all boycotted the sport. :: 2/14/2020: Kevin St. John, Rochester NY, US Dear Ms. Trender,I have been a fan of lifting for several decades and my feelings about the prizewinners @ 84 games is that they showed up and competed with everyone who attended and then came out on top. Good for them. I feel horrible for those athletes who were not allowed to attend by their governments but those who did are winners against all comers and earned my respect as competitors. I look at it almost the same way as a competition where others bombed out or were injured. These men were there and they totaled and did their best to be champions. I see nothing cheap about their efforts. :: 1/17/2020: amanda trender, oxford , england Les Blower. The 1984 0lympics was boycotted by nearly all the best weightlifting nations ( I.e. Communist nations), so medals were cheap for inferior nations. :: 10/24/2019: hil henshaw, birminham , england That was meant to say 'your' not 'you're' and 'wearing', not 'eating'. How embarrassing. Still, not as embarrassing as wearing a leotard over the age of fourty AND boasting about it. :: 10/24/2019: phil henshaw, birmingham , england Such modesty, Mr.Morgan. But come now,David. It ill becomes a lifter of you're achievements to even be competing in veteran competitions, let alone boasting about them. They are simply the domain of lifters who have a high enough embarrassment threshold to walk out in front of people in their dotage eating a fucking leotard. :: 10/24/2019: phil henshaw, birmingham , england Such modesty, Mr.Morgan.
