Former world record holder. Graduated from the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Institute of Physical Culture in 1986. Served as coach of the Central Sports Club of the (Russian) Army, coach of the Russian national Junior Team, head coach of the Russian national men's team, and head coach of the Azerbaijani National men's team (2001-2006). Currently residing in his native village of Sabnava, outside of Derbent in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia.
