I recall reading about his 200kg snatch record and thinking that it was not humanly possible for anyone to snatch that much. Still staggers me to think what a colossal feat this was and still is nearly forty years later.

What happened to the career of Plachkov? He had a big performance in 1975 at the Worlds and was supposed to be ready for a big show at the Montreal Olympics but it never happened. He lifted for a while longer but never really improved. I saw him at Gettysburg in 1978 but he didn't do anything great and I don't recall seeing results for him after that. Did the Bulgarian system just burn him out?
