Abdul wahid Aziz was a patriot and lover of his country and his city Basrah. He refused to go to America when he was invited to join the America wightlifing team and be trianed in USA when the american wieght lifting team visited Basrah in 1955 and missed this opprtunety which would have given him the chance to be a world champion

I have met and get to know Abdul Wahid Aziz from the late 1950's when he was training with and helping other weightlifters in Basra. He was a real gentleman, modest and most pleasant person to meet. I still retain a memorable photo of him and his fellow weight lifters from that period. I will be glad to share this photo with Rawa. Thank you for the memory of a great athlete and dedicated patriot of Iraq.

A.Aziz was the best iraqi athlete .. that's what i can tell after reading all his amazing history in weightlifting ... he's the only iraqi athelete that made an international fame and achievements ... I hope God will bless him with his mercy in heaven for all what he did for his ppl.
