Yuri Tiurin had a solid career in the Russian Elite League in the 1970s. An extremely powerful and strong defenseman, he had a reputation of a tough and physical hard-to-go-around bodychecker.
Tiurin was a graduate of the Krylya Sovetov youth hockey program. He spent his best career years playing for the Krylya Sovetov and won the USSR Gold and national Cup in 1974.
Head coach of Team USSR 1974 and Krylya Sovetov, Boris Kulagin selected Tiurin to play in the 1974 Summit Series. Overall, Tyurin had a solid performance in the Series. He played in four games and scored one goal in Game 7 in Moscow. Playing for the Team USSR, Tyurin won the gold medal and scored 2 goals in 8 games at the World Championship in 1975.
As a part of the Krylya Sovetov, Yury Tyurin played in all games of the Superseries vs. top NHL clubs in 1975-76 and 1978-79.
