Konstanin Klimov was a skillful winger of the Russian Elite League in the 1970s. Being a very fast skater and technically savvy player, he was known for his break aways in the neutral zone and for his ability to outplay one-on-one the strongest Soviet blueliners.
Klimov began to play hockey in Moscow. In 1966-67, he played for the junior Red Army club. In 1967, he joined the Spartak Moscow. The Spartak was the all-time feistiest team in the Russian League. In 1969, Klimov won his first USSR Gold.
In 1973-1976, Klimov was invited to play for the Krylya Sovetov Moscow. With his Spartak's spirit and distinct offensive skills, Klimov was the right fit for this ambitious team led by Boris Kulagin. In 1974, the Soviet Wings won the USSR Gold and the national Cup.
As Team USSR head coach of the mid 1970s, Kulagin quiet often preferred to invite his Krylya Sovetov players to play for the national team. Klimov didn't play for the Team USSR frequently. In fact, although he didn't actually played in the 1974 Summit, his selection as a candidate was an indicator of the promise that a young forward showed in the 1974. As a part of the Krylya Sovetov, Konstanin Klimov also played vs. Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres in the Superseries 1975-76.
