Sergey Glukhov had a steady career of a reliable elite Russian defenseman of the 1970s. Besides solid performance in the USSR Elite League, he was invited to the training camp of the national team on various occasions. However, his international experience is rather limited to the games for the Krylya Sovetov Moscow on a club level.
Glukhov launched a very promising upstart in the junior hockey in the late 1960s. He was selevted to play for the junior Team USSR in several top level international tournaments of his age group. In 1968, young blueliner joined the elite the Krylya Sovetov to play for this elite team till his retitement 1983.
The only two seasons when his name was absent on the Krylya Sovetov's roster were associated with Glukhov's military service in 1970-72. At that time, he played for the legendary Anatoly Tarasov in the Red Army club and won his first USSR gold medal in 1971.
Glukhov returned to the Krylya Sovetov in the 1972-73 and became one of the key players of the team that managed to win the USSR gold and national Cup in 1974.
Team USSR 1974 head coach Boris Kulagin mentored Glukhov in both the Red Army and Krylya Sovetov and selected him as a national team candidate for the 1974 Summit Series. With a heavy work load on the shoulders of more experienced defensemen, Sergey Glukhov didn't play in the Series. However being a part of the 1974 Summit and playing later in the Superseries of the 1970s obviously were among the most impressive moments of Glukhov's career in hockey.
