Alexander Filippov represented the Dynamo Moscow club on the Team USSR 1974 roster. He was a solid physical defensive defenseman of the Russian Elite hockey league. Throughout his career with the Dynamo, he enjoyed commanding his team in his own zone.
Filippov began to play elite hockey with the Lokomotiv Moscow in 1969. After one season with this team, he joined the Dynamo Moscow organization where he played 13 seasons till his retirement in 1983. As a member of the Dynamo squad, Filippov won two USSR cups in 1972 and 1976 and played almost 300 hundred games in the elite league.
The 1974-75 season was probably the most successful international year for Alexander Filippov. He was selected as a Team USSR candidate at 1974 Summit Series and won a world title at the WC 1975 (2 goals in 4 games.) He also played for the Dynamo Moscow in the Superseries vs. the WHA teams in 1977-78 and vs. the NHL teams in 1979-80.
