Vladimir Repnev was one of the solid forwards of the promising Soviet Wings/Krylya Sovetov Moscow team of the 1970s.

He began to play hockey with the Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine, USSR. In 1972, Repnev joined the Krylya Sovetov organization in Moscow. One of the most exciting teams of the mid 1970s, Krylya Sovetov was going through a transitional period from a mid level team to an ambitious contender for the USSR title. In 1974, Boris Kulagin's Krylya Sovetov won both the USSR championship and the national cup. Vladimir Repnev was a significant contributor to his team success.

Although 25-year Repnev didn't play in the 1974 Summit Series, he was on the list of the Team USSR candidates and, later on, played in various top international tournaments of the 1970s. In 1974, Repnev became a world champion in Finland (1 goal in 7 games.) As a part of the Soviet Wings team he played vs. the NHL clubs in the Superseries 1975-76 (3 G, 1 A, 4 PTS in 4 games). In 1976, Repnev scored 2 goals in 5 games playing for Team USSR at the first Canada Cup.
