Vladislav Tretiak is one of the best goalies in the history of world hockey.

At the age of 18, he won his first gold at the World Championship in 1970 and remained top ranked Soviet goalie until his retirement in 1984.

Being an extremely gifted athlete, Tretiak was a classy goaltender with an amazing consistency in virtually every game he played for his Red Army Club and Team USSR.

Besides his impressive performance in competitions, he was famous for his great ethics and hard work in training. Tretiak was respected by all hockey opponents he had to play against.

Despite numerous offers, he never got a chance to play in the NHL. Tretiak was the first Soviet player to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto (1989).
