Born: 1/3/1949 in Red Deer, Alberta
Barry Long was one of the largest players in professional hockey when he broke into the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings in the 1972-73 season. Not known for his offensive skills Barry was a solid defensive addition to a young Kings defense.
In the summer of 1974 Barry made the decision to return home to Alberta and signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He quickly proved to be one of the WHA's more solid defenders. In 1976-77 Barry
was traded to the Winnipeg Jets and became a key member of the Winnipeg powerhouse that dominated the WHA in the late 70's winning two Avco World Trophy's. He retired at the end of the 1981-82 season.
Barry Long was named to Team Canada in a substitute role. His responsibility was to practice with the team and provide some depth. He was not promised the opportunity to play in the series by Billy Harris and in fact would see no playing time in the Summit.
