Club: Houston Aeros

Height: 6-01 Weight: 195
Born: 2/18/1954 in Detroit, Michigan
Marty Howe, oldest son of hockey legend Gordie Howe was a key member of the Toronto Marlboros Memorial Cup championship team
of 1972-73. He then made headlines in the summer of 1973 when he was drafted by the WHA Houston Aeros, along with his younger brother Mark. At this time the NHL had a rule that forbid the drafting of any player under the age of 20, however the WHA had no such rule, and took advantage of that fact to sign many top young players.
Marty would go on to have a solid pro career. Never reaching the levels of his father or brother, Marty would always be known as a solid if unspectacular defenseman. He was considered a good dependable defensive player and a somewhat competent offensive player.
There were
those who questioned his addition to Team Canada 74. Many felt he was on the team simply to make father Gordie happy. Marty would play in 4 games in the series with mixed results. He was
terrible (along with most of his teammates in game 3) and while playing better in game 4 had the misfortune of having a key Soviet goal bounce into the net off his leg. He struggled on the
bigger International ice surface in game 6 and played capably in game 8.
