Don Awrey
Team Canada # 26
Don Awrey was a classic NHL defense player that represented Boston Bruins in the 1972 Summit. Paired with one of the best blueliners of all time, Awrey always allowed Bobby Orr’s offensive talent to shine by supporting and backing up his magnificent end-to-end rushes. Awrey had a reputation of being a solid and tough defenseman and a great team player. In his NHL years, he was always thrilled to help his team with reliable and steady defense work including physical battles in the corners and shot blocking.

PERFORMANCE IN THE 1972 SUMMIT
"A defenseman like Donny Awrey, who loved to block shots, had a tough time against those guys. I don't want to take anything away from Awrey, but he wasn't the right style of the defenseman to play the Russians." Serge Savard, Team Canada 1972
The Awrey-Seiling blueliners' pair was considered the best in the training camp of Team Canada. However, they were beaten too often by the speedy Soviet forwards. Don Awrey played in just two games of the Summit Series.
